Cape Town – 3rd Best City in the World

Written on January 24th, 2010 by adminno shouts

Vibrant, diverse, colourful and captivating are just some of the adjectives that describe this beautiful city. Set at the edge of the cold Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by the Cape Floral Kingdom (a World Heritage Site) and adorned with a world-renowned landmark, Table Mountain, Cape Town offers visitors and locals a multifaceted experience. Its not surprising then that Cape Town has been awarded so many accolades:

3rd Best City In The World – US Travel And Leisure July 2008   Best City In Africa & Middle East – US Travel And Leisure July 2008   4th Top City In The World – Conde Nast Readers’ Choice October 2008   Best City In Africa & Middle East – Conde Nast Readers’ Choice October 2008   3rd Best City In The Top 10 World Food Cities – Lonely Planet Blue List 2008   Best Destination, Africa – World Travel Awards May 2008   Best City To Live In, Africa & Middle East – Mercer Quality Of Living Survey 2008   One Of The “Places Of A Lifetime” – National Geographic Traveler, July 2008   One Of The World’s Most Sustainable Cities – Ethisphere Institute, Sept 2008   Boulder’s Beach: World’s Best Family Beach – UK Telegraph March 2007   Cleanest City In SA – DEAT Annual Cleanest Metro Awards March 2007   #1 Uk Long Haul Destination – UK Trends And Spends Survey 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007  One Of The World’s 5 Bluest Sky Destinations – Expedia.co.uk July 2006   Favourite Foreign City – UK Telegraph 2004, 2005   Ideal Travel Destination – Markinor-Sunday Times Top Brands Survey 2005   Africa’s Leading Destination – World Travel Awards 2008   Best Tourism Investor City of the Year – AI Tourism Investor Awards 2009

Cape Town offers a diverse menu for everyone: from extreme outdoor adventure activities to the quiet indoors, from budget backpacker accommodation to ultimate 6 star luxury, from cultural to theatrical entertainment and vast gastronomic experiences accompanied by some of the best wines in the world. Cape Town is a destination that for a traveller requires an absolute minimum of 3 nights stay to be able to grasp its diversity.

Cape Town is a popular venue for many international sports events such as the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Race (109km road race), Two Oceans Marathon (56km), the start of the ABSA Cape Epic Mountain Bike Challenge (800km over 8 days with approx 16 000m of climbing!) and the start of the biannual Cape to Rio Yacht Race. Cape Town hosted the 2005 Rugby World Cup and 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup. Cape Town is also host to the 2010 FIFA World Cup taking place from 11 June to 11 July 2010. South Africans in general are great sport enthusiasts and Capetonians certainly play their part in this role.

Generally Capetonians are known by the locals of other South African cities to be very laid back and easy going. Compared to the bustling metropolis of Johannesburg for instance where life is upbeat, fast and social, things happen in order and on time. Well, mostly, we need to keep in mind that this is Africa after all! All in all, South Africans are known to be very friendly and welcome travellers from all over the world.

Cape Town is an excellent gateway to the rest of southern Africa and a visit here can be combined with world-renowned wildlife safari destinations such as Sabi Sands Game Reserve west of the Kruger National Park, the Okavango Delta in Botswana or the malaria free Eastern Cape game reserves. Amongst other travel options to combine with your visit to Cape Town is a desert wilderness experience in Namibia or a luxury tropical beach experience in Mozambique.

Having travelled extensively all over southern, east and north Africa and abroad (mostly Europe) I made my home in Cape Town. A home in a city I am very proud of and don’t intend leaving at any cost at this stage of my life.

Motto:  Living and Loving Cape Town

Come and visit and see for yourself…

World 2010 Schedule

Written on January 19th, 2010 by adminno shouts

While it’s still a ways off, not beginning until next summer, excitement is already growing over the World Cup 2010 schedule. We can’t tell you whose going to be there, but we can tell you that FIFA has released the official schedule for the games. You can check it out on the FIFA web site. The games will be played all over South Africa with some of the most important matches happening in Johannesburg. Since Johannesburg is so central to the games and if you’re planning to see it live, you may want to do something other than just sit around talking about the games so here’s a quick rundown of what you can do in this beautiful town when you’re not taking in a match:

For starters, check out Gold Leaf City. This incredible site, built around the No. 14 shaft of Crown Mines, is a complete and authentic reproduction of Johannesburg at the beginning of the 20th century. You can check out the simple furnishings that minors would have had with all the various fittings as well, including the famous pressed ceilings. The museum exhibits offer the chance to see antique clothing and children’s toys, all showing the visitor what life was like for those who lived in this bustling metropolis 100 years ago. A train goes around the perimeter of the park and many shops offer interesting knick knacks. You can also see the original gold mine in an elevator that goes down  220 meters below the surface. Finally, there is an onsite casino which never closes in case you’re in the mood to gamble away some of that gold.

If you’re coming to Jo-berg (as the natives call it) with kids or nature lovers, you might want to squeeze some time in in between the World Cup 2010 schedule to see Lion Park. This incredible safari like experience featuring four prides of lions, of various ages. They also have a number of rhino as well as other herbivores. The lions are fenced-in in a high-security area (so no need to be concerned about getting eaten – well not much of one anyway) while the rest of the park area is open to the other animals. For the brave hearted or foolish, you can actually have your picture taken with a lion cub, under supervision of course. A restaurant and gift shop are located in the shaded areas where you can also find picnic facilities.

Besides these, there is lots more to see so make sure you don’t miss any of it. Plan your visit and check the 2010 World Cup Schedule carefully so you know what to see and when to see it!

Tips on Getting 2010 World Cup Soccer Tickets

Written on January 18th, 2010 by adminno shouts

If you missed out on the first phase of tickets for the World Cup, phase 2 started May 4th 2009. In just a few days, over 150,000 tickets have been sold in the second phase. Now is the time to get your tickets for this historical event. For the first time ever, the world cup will be held in South Africa. It is the first time the tournament has been hosted by the Confederation of African Football.

So, how do you get your tickets? If you do not live in South Africa:

? You can apply online using your credit card.
? You can print a downloadable application and fax it or mail it to the world cup ticket centre in Switzerland.

If you live in South Africa:

? Paper application forms are available at all First Bank branches in South Africa.
? Online using your credit card

You can also try using an online auction site to get your tickets. Some people buy their tickets, and for whatever reason realize that they will not be able to attend. Be careful, though, and buy from a reputable buyer. Also, make sure they have not inflated the price. You don’t want to pay twice the price of what they are worth.

There are going to be a total of five phases, so if you miss phase one and two, you can buy in phase three, four or five. Phase 3 will begin December 5th 2009 and end January 22nd, 2010. Phase 4 will begin February 9th 2010 and end April 7th 2010. Phase 5 will begin April 15th and end July 11th. Tickets are subject to availability, so if you are thinking of buying your tickets at the last minute, you may find your preferred categories and matches have been sold out.

There are two types of tickets available; Match tickets, and Team Specific Ticket series. (TSTs).

Match tickets are individual tickets, and are available for all matches.

Team Specific Ticket series are ticket strips to follow the national team of your choice. You do not have to root for your specific nationality.

Keep these points in mind when applying for tickets:

Opening match tickets are generally more expensive than the other group matches, because the opening match includes the opening ceremonies.

You must attend each match that you have purchased tickets for.

You can apply for up to four tickets per match with a maximum of seven matches; or you can apply for a maximum of four Team Specific Ticket Series for your team of choice.

Once you apply for the tickets, you will need to provide your personal information such as your first and last name, date of birth, nationality and passport reference. You will also need to provide your home address, contact details and payment details.

You cannot purchase tickets for different matches being played on the same day.

Generally, expect to spend anywhere from $100 to $900, depending on the matches and categories you apply for. If the matches are anything like the most recent World Cups, it will be worth every penny.

2010: World Cup Soccer in South Africa

Written on January 18th, 2010 by adminno shouts

South Africa is not exactly one of those places where people plan a vacation and, therefore, with the 2010 World Cup Soccer tournament to take place in South Africa, a great deal is being done to help prepare for an onslaught of visitors to the area. World Cut Soccer is, on many levels, something like the Olympics and baseball’s World Series rolled into one; teams from around the world are already counting down and competing with their eyes on the World Cup in 2010 and fans are already looking into learning more about places to stay and even driving rules in South Africa.

All of this – fans looking into lodging and travel, teams playing for a shot at making the tournament – is already taking place. Even with almost two years to go before the 2010 World Cup Soccer tournament in South Africa, the official web site is documenting the way that teams are playing and that features a countdown to the event (with well over 600 days to go). So far, there are two hundred teams that have entered into the competition; two hundred teams that are aiming to be one of the thirty-one teams that will compete.

Teams from Spain, England, France, Germany and Italy are all competing as representatives of European nations. Africa has a total of fifty-three teams that are working their way through the preliminaries, with Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Zambia, Swaziland, Togo and other nations participating. Asian nations that hope to be in thirty one teams who will compete for the 2010 World Cup Soccer title in South Africa include Korea, Iran and Saudi Arabia. New Zealand and Fiji are both vying for a position from Oceania.

On the other side of the globe, teams from North and Central America as well as the nations of the Caribbean are competing and preparing for a spot in the 2010 World Cup Soccer tournament in South Africa. So far, teams from the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Trinidad and Tobago and Honduras are leading the way. From South America, thus far, Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay have taken the lead.

While it is far too soon to tell which nations will ultimately be among the thirty one spots in the 2010 World Cup tournament finals in South Africa, one thing is sure: each of the preliminary matches is grabbing the interest of soccer fans worldwide – all of whom are hoping that their nation or their favorite team will ultimately be represented. Photos of matches are available online, match details have been made available and these are just the first steps: the 2010 World Cup in South Africa will also offer live streaming coverage of the matches that are played; likewise, some preliminary matches will be aired live online.

The road to the 2010 World Cup Soccer tournament in South Africa is still long and winding, however that does nothing to slow down the ways in which players and fans have planned to travel it to reach their destination.

African World Cup Qualifiers Sudan Vs Ghana

Written on January 17th, 2010 by adminno shouts

The African group D has spiced up with group favorites Ghana setting the early pace with all the three teams still in contention for a place in South Africa 2010 finals. Ghana has made the brightest start in the group with winning their first home fixture of the qualifiers against second placed Benin. They then outplayed Sevilla’s Kanoute led Mali by a 2-0 margin. Sudan on the other hand have all to play for when they play the strongest team in the group as they have solitary point to show for their efforts in the two matches they have played in their campaign. They did well when they held a good Mali side at home to get a valuable point but looked lackluster when they came against Benin in an away game. The former four time CAF African champions qualified for the World cup in Germany  in the last edition for the first time in history and had a dream start when they beat highly fancied Czech Republic and USA before the were eliminated by a star studded Brazil in the second round. The former two time under 17 FIFA World cup champions had been in good form off late when as host they were beaten in the semi finals of the continental cup last year owing largely to injuries and suspension. Sudan has been one of the founders of the Confederation of African Football and has a rich history of football. They have been among the earliest FIFA members representing Africa. They were the third nation from Africa to enter FIFA World Cup preliminaries but are yet to make it to the finals of the World cup. The Sukoor Al-Jediane would though be confident with their strong showings in the recent past noticeably their encouraging showing at the last year’s Ghana 2008. With six crucial points at stake in the round of double header at the mid way stage of the qualifiers and with only two round of matches to be played in the qualifiers, favorable results in these two matches can well give a decisive edge to the teams. Ghana has plenty to choose from with the likes of Chelsea number 5 Michael Essien leading the midfield. Sulley Muntari is another fast improving midfielder. The Black Stars have Manuel Agogo, Tagoe and Amoah to score and not to forget the Michael Essien’s usual thunderbolts from outside the penalty area. Sudan on the other hand has some good players who can win matches on their own. They do not possess the likes of Essiens but rely on team work and coordination. The Sukoor Al-Jediane has in the camp the likes of Faisal Agab with Muhammad Tahir and Haytam Kamal also providing a helpful hand. As history has shown, Football results are difficult to predict. So you cannot afford to miss this pulsating contest and if you are to know the Football live score, you need to visit Scorespro.com

African World Cup Qualifiers Zambia Vs Algeria

Written on January 17th, 2010 by adminno shouts

1300 GMT The race to South Africa 2010 is heating up now as the third round of matches is going to be played next week. Only one team from each group will make it automatically to the grandest stage in the footballing world. This round of matches will play an important part in deciding which teams will live their dream and football results of these matches are awaited by their fans desperately. Zambia plays against Algeria for the battle at the top of the table. Both the teams are surprisingly leading a group which features double African champions Egypt. Zambia will host the first of the double headers. They have four points from two games. Zambia had a dream start to their campaign when they held Egypt to a 1-1 draw before beating Rwanda by 1-0. Algeria has been a revelation in the qualifiers. They were held to an expected 0-0 draw away to Rwanda. But they created a major upset when they hammered favorites Egypt 3-1 at home and now top the table with a superior goal difference as compared to Zambia. Zambia has a history of playing consistent but fruitless football. They still mourn the airplane crash carrying their entire team when they were one win away from qualifying for USA 1994.They have shown they have that African fighting spirit noticeably when they reached the final of CAF African cup of Nations in 1994. They would be looking to the new breed of generation from the under 20 team that took part in the World cup in Canada in 2007. Algeria announced them at the world stage when they shocked the eventual finalist West Germany by a margin of 2-1 and then beat Chile 3-2. They then had another appearance in 1986 but could secure only one point after being paired against height weights Brazil and Spain. But they showed enormous courage in both their World finals but have not made it to the finals since then. They have only one trophy to their name when they won CAF African cup of Nations in 1990.They are looking desperate to turn the time and make it to South Africa in next year’s competition. Both the teams have some quality players who can turn games on their heads. Zambia has their captain Katongo, a Brondby based player and Sinkala, who plays for German second division. Mbesuma is another player who has been playing in Europe. Zambia will have other players to look forward to with the likes of Francis Kasonde, Rainford Kalaba and Felix Katonga having the talent to make it count. Algeria on the other hand are looking strong hand have themselves have the fire power and exuberance to tackle any opposition. The Fennecs the attacking arsenal in Rafik Djebour, Antar Yahia and Karim Ziani. African World Cup Qualifiers Gabon Vs Cameroon

Written on January 17th, 2010 by adminno shouts

African World Cup Qualifiers Gabon Vs Cameroon Date: 20/6/2009 Gabon has been among the minnows of Africa. They have never qualified for the elite competition and never made any significant impact as far as the CAF African cup of nations is concerned. Their only significant appearance in the World cup qualifiers comes when the famously defeated the more fancied Nigeria in the World Cup Italy 1990 and prevented them from the qualification. They had the heart ache of missing out on the World Cup in Asia in 2002 after they failed to get pass the preliminary round when they were beaten by lowly Madagascar. The football result of this team is always interesting and you must navigate to have latest updates about it. Since then they have worked hard on their infra structure and are of high hopes to create history and qualify for the biggest competition in international football. They are headed by former French midfielder Alain Geiresse who has been given the task to achieve the inevitable. They have received a boost with their inspirational striker Daniel Cousin back in the lineup. There work had been cut out after they were slotted in the group regarded as the ‘group of death’ where they come head to head against Togo, champions Morocco and Cameroon. They made a sound start after winning their away game against Morocco before hammering Togo 3-0 at home and are surprising leading the group. They look to Roguy Meye for inspiration and if Gabon is to escape the group and make this campaign a memorable one then Meye has to be at his best. Cameroon has been one of the best teams of Africa in the past 20 years. They had burst on the scene when they shocked the defending champions and favourites Diego Maradona led Argentina in their opening match of the Italy 1990 World cup. The Indomitable Lions as they are known, Cameroon has a rich history of football. They are chasing their fifth appearance in the World cup in their last six attempts. They had to face the heart ache of not making to the finals in the last edition when they missed their last minute penalty against Egypt. They have been in great form off late. The made it to the final of the CAF African Cup of Nations at Ghana 2008 where after being beaten by the defending champions Egypt in their opening fixture, they lost to the same opposition by the closest of margins of 1-0. They have a star studded line up with the likes of Barcelona Eto’o returning to the squad after an excellent season with the Catalans where he helped them achieve a famous treble. Song, their fort in front of the goal has been a sensation for his national team and has appeared for over a century of matches. They would be firm favourites to make it to South Africa 2010. The 2000 Sydney Olympics gold medalists are under German Otto Pfister, who headed the sorry campaign of Togo in the last World cup finals. The Indomitable Lions have a tough group to deal with after being paired against Gabon, Morocco and Togo and football result of these matches are interesting to watch. But they would be fancied to go through. They have a double header encounter against the early pace setters Gabon, who are in great form after two victories. They will look to Eto’o for the magic touch to take out of the wrong side of the table and football live score of this fixture is available at Scorespro.com
